| Welcome
to the Ensign Transport Museum. |
As the UK’s largest dealer
in double deck buses Ensignbus has been synonymous with London’s
buses for the last 30 years, in that time over 25,000 such buses
have passed through our hands. Of course with so
many vehicles coming and going, it would be very easy to ignore
the historical importance of these icons of Britain but Ensignbus
have often kept an example ‘within fleet’ for future preservation.
|
With new premises acquired in June 2004 with room for nearly 500
buses the decision was made to put in a transport collection of
some of the vehicles that have plied the streets of London over
the past century. With there already being two fantastic collections
of London buses already established, the emphasis was on two fronts.
Firstly to try and collect a wide ranging collection of some of
the more ‘common’ types and secondly to save some buses that may
be in a poor state, that whilst rare, are not unique and are already
represented in other collections and therefore would possibly
be left to decay if not recovered soon.
|

As Ensignbus have exported many buses over the years it is ironic that
now many of the more unusual types that have been found recently have
been overseas and are now being imported back to their country of origin
to be restored. As part of the research into our vehicles we are always
pleased to hear from anyone who has photos of them in London service
(or indeed after) and try to add them to the relevant vehicle page,
so if you do have any shots of them please feel free to send them in!
